You may remember on July 30, when the parliament passed the Triple Talaaq Bill that made the age-old practice a criminal offence, Congress came down heavily on it and opposed the passing of the bill. President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and actor, Raj Babbar also condemned criminalising a practice which has been already struck down by the Supreme Court. He had said, "A civil law has been changed into criminal law. This is a historic mistake."
And now, SpotboyE.com has got to know that Mr Babbar’s son, Prateik is bringing the same issue on big screen on October 18, through his film, titled as #Yaaram. The romcom deals with a plot of 3 educated friends, being played by Prateik Babbar, Sidhant Kapoor and Ishita Raj Sharma. It’s been shot in beautiful locations of Mauritius and deals with the issue of triple talaaq.

It’s been shot in beautiful locations of Mauritius and deals with the issue of triple talaaq.
We spoke to the director of the film, Ovais Khan, to understand at a time when the Triple Talaaq bill is a burning issue, how his film reflects the matter. The director told us, “My film’s story revolves around 3 friends and their love story. Prateik Babbar, who plays the role of a Hindu boy, Rohit Bajaj decides to convert his religion to Islam just to get married to Ishita Raj Sharma, who plays the role of Zoya- a Muslim girl married to Sidhant Kapoor portraying the character of Sahil Qureshi. Now, Sahil gives instant triple talaq to Zoya and that’s how she becomes a victim of triple talaq- this is the crux of the story.”
We then asked Khan if his film is raising a voice against the practice or the bill which was passed by the parliament, a few months back. “No, we are not really raising a voice against anything. This is just showing how some Muslim men take advantage of something which doesn’t really exist. In a spur of a moment, they give talaaq but after that what a woman goes through- we are just trying to put that across.
Ask Ovais Khan, what is personal opinion on the issue, and the director told us, “One should obey the real conditions and rules specified in Quraan about talaaq. Teen baar talaaq bolne se talaaq nahi ho jaata. After you say Talaaq for the first time, the husband and the wife has to stay together for 45 days and spend time, still if the man says talaaq again after the passage of those 45 days, then the couple brings in the family and relatives into picture and have a discussion. If after the second time also, things don’t improve then again for 45 days, the girl stays with her family and finally after those 45 days, one can formally have a divorce. It is a process of 4 to 5 months and not just a moment.”
